Graphical Construction Glossary >> Temporary Work. >> shoring >> Underpinning Pressure Grout
Apart from trivial jobs where grout is poured into small cavities by hand, all grouting is done under pressure. The more accurate description of this type of underpinning would be permeation grouting On porous foundation material is is often possible to inject a grout mixture into the subgrade and by pumping at high pressure, to force the grout into any voids and so stabilise the foundation and stop further sagging of the footings. This procedure will never lift foundation that have already dropped. The grout can be plane sand and cement, but the preferred method is to use various additives to greater a stronger and non shrink product. This procedure is simple and non invasive, but it is impossible to estimate accurately the quantities needed and hence the price for any particular job.
