Pipe Handrails

Stair handrails that are made out of hollow tube sections

Circular handrails are becoming more popular with forward looking designers and stair builders. The reason is very simple. Ease of manufacture and the low relative cost of materials .

• Circular rails are cheaper than anything else. They are made out of many materials that are mass produced for other industries so that cost savings in scale occurs.
• For continuous railing they are particularly appropriate as the standard elbows and bends follow the complicated curves sometimes needed very easily.
• The reason for this is that a circle is a unique geometrical shape. It only has one centre point or axis. Ovals and rectangular based shapes have a horizontal axis and a vertical axis.
• Making oval or rectanglular shaped handrail wreathes out of timber or even steel is not particularly complicated, but it does require time and skill or expensive machinery which is not the case with metal pipe rails.

The handrail wreath here uses a cheap mass produced short radius elbow fitting. The rail that it joins to has also had a bend applied to it. More than likely with a fairly cheap mass produced pipe bender.

Apart from low cost and easy application to continuous handrailing the metal rails here have a futher advantage, that of stength.

For external use they are also excellent because weather resistance.
