parapet

1.) The part of an exterior wall, gable or party wall that is entirely above the roof surface
2.) A low wall to guard the edge of a drop off.
3.) A defense wall.

In addition to the wall shown, there is one more important one. The section that rises above the roof surface on a party wall or fire wall.

Party walls and standard exterior walls that follow the roof slope require a simple flashing at the junction of wall and roof, but walls at the bottom of a roof slope require a box or parpet gutter.
