Graphical Construction Glossary >> Temporary Work. >> Scaffolding >> Modular Scaffolding
Made by all the major scaffolding manufacturers under various trade names these systems come in mostly hi-tensile steel, but high strength aluminium is making inroads into the traditional steel market. Every component of a fully featured scaffold has been modularised, from metal planks to access ladders and stairs. Mandatory for larger construction sites in Europe and Australia modular systems are inherently safer, easier and faster to build than tube and coupler systems. Small amounts of tube and couplers are still used in conjunction with modular systems. The known engineering qualities of the various joints make them superior to the bolted couples that depend on the individual skill of the person fixing it. Above is a close up of the parts in the "Acrowscaff" system. They are all assembled by hand with the only tool required is a hammer.
