Howe truss
A truss with alternate vertical and angled members between the chords. They angled members pointing down and towards the supports.
Howe girder
A truss or girder with horizontal chords with alternate vertical and angled members between the chords. They angled members pointing down and towards the supports.

Named after their inventor these trusses have been around for 150 years or so and like the other similar trusses they are not used now for their original purpose (bridge building) but because of their simplicity they are still finding plenty of use in construction.
