Tie Wire
A malleable black wire that is used mainly for tying rebar, but has many other uses in formwork. The basic principal of tie wire is that when it is twisted in a tourniquet (tightening) fashion it does not untwist but remains tight even under load.

tie wire for fixing rebar

Used mainly for tying reinforcing steel in position, it is used in conjunction with end cutters by experienced steel fixers to make very quick connections. At the same time it is a simple matter to snip it off if alterations have to be made.

It is used for many other jobs also by formworkers. Take a look at the bottom of the wall formwork page for sketches of how it can be used to wall forms together without the use of bolts.
