Graphical Construction Glossary >> Roofs and roofing. >> Roof Features >> scupper, gutter outlet
An ornamental rainwater outlet from a horizontal valley gutter. One of very many, each different in the 19th. century Citadel complex in Hue, Vietnam. A modern version of a similar outlet between parallel roofs. This time absolutely no obstructions to shift the tropical downpours in Darwin, Australia. From the 9th century temple complex at Prambanan central Java, this outlet one of dozens that take rainwater from the stone paved terraces. A good feature of outlets like these is to protrude well away from the wall so that the water gets away cleanly and does not stain the wall. See also this sectional sketch though a parapet gutter.
