Above is a shot of "Monier" roof tiles on a couple of roofs. In it the purpose made hip tiles are clearly visible. The tiles that cover the ridges are the same. The cement or concrete roofing tiles are made in large factoryies, being pressed to shape, sprayed with their topping colours and autoclaved in their hundreds of thousands each day. Generally they are not directly sold to builders or home owners as tiles, but as complete supply and fix packages using the companies accredited sub-contact fixers. The sarking, battens and tiles are priced as a whole. Cement tiles should not be fixed at less than a 15Deg. roof pitch. In the photo to the left which shows the top of a tile, note the hole for the fixing nail, and the capillary grooves at the side lap area. At the right is the underside view of the same tile and it shows the locating lug at the top which sits over the tile batten and the ridges that fit into side lap grooves and the ridges at the bottom. The combination of the grooves and ridges stop wind blown rain traveling uphill. Modern quality control produces accurate and well fitting tiles every time. Note the accurate and well fitting side joint and lengthwise joint overlaps. If you didn't find exactly what you are looking for try this search tool that will search the site and the web.
